Soua Vang

February is nearly over, but we have to fit in this conversation with Adventure Filmmaker and Photographer, Soua Vang. Soua travels all over the country shooting the best of what inspires him. Learn more about him below!

Q. Where are you from?
A. I am from Appleton, WI
Q. Where did your inspiration come from to start filming and photography?
A. My inspiration comes from my love of traveling and taking that opportunity to meet and connect with other people. My hometown is great but people there tend to remain there and never venture out to explore the world. I knew that wasn’t for me. I wanted to travel the world and experience as many things as I could in this short life. I remember my first road trip. We had no real plan, we just got in the car and started driving to our destination. The feeling of exploring the unknown was exhilarating. Discovering a whole different culture and it’s people is something I will never forget. On that trip, I experienced the true feeling of being alive. It’s a feeling that I often draw upon in my work and hope to inspire others when they watch my videos. YouTube content creators like Jay Alverez and Sam Kolder has also been a big source of inspiration as well. Their ability to bring an experience or product to life is something I aspire to do. Watching their videos, I knew that traveling and making videos is what I wanted to do, so I went out and chased that dream. Seeing them work with brands while creating and traveling has always reassured me that if they can do it, so can I.

Q. Favorite place(s) to film?
A. As funny as it is, I love going out to the city and creating content. It’s normally not the travel content I normally make, but it is a whole different style and atmosphere that I love working with. There is something about the urban city feel and setting that really makes my creativity bloom. But I also love going outdoors into nature to create. There's just something about being in nature that makes me appreciate life and the moment I am in when creating.
Q. What’s one thing you can’t leave the house without?
A. Easily my Gimbal. I do a lot of run and gun shooting handheld, but there are those moments where I see a shot that I want to get and need that buttery smooth look. That's where the gimbal comes in. It has saved me on multiple occasions and I know that when I go to edit, it will be an awesome shot!
Q. If you could put one thing on a billboard, what would it be?
A. It would be “ Embrace your creativity!” Everyone should embrace their creative side and express that creativity.
